Messed Up Minds

Read John 13:1–11

The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God (John 13:2,3).

The devil is notorious for messing with our minds. He puts thoughts in our heads that will spin us into darkness. But when we bring every thought into the obedience of Christ, in the Lord’s power, we can know whose we are and what we are called to do as beacons of His light.

Judas wasn’t alone in being fooled by the enemy. Peter, too, tasted of Satan’s conniving deception by thinking he was doing right when he refused to let Jesus wash his feet. His noble gesture in reality interfered with his coming nearer to the Christ. “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me,” Jesus told Peter (John 13:8).

The difference between the two deceived disciples: One died in the dark and the other saw the light.

Thought for Today: Christ empowers us to tune out the devil and listen to truth.
